
Getting Involved
In order to join us as members at Neptune RLSC, all persons must follow the steps below. All training will be provided free by one of our in-club trainers. Patrolling members must be enrolled into and working towards achieving a bronze level award.
All members 18 years of age or older must hold and maintain a Working with Children Check (Blue Card)
Complete a Membership Form
Pay Club Fees
Complete a Member Induction
Complete relevant training and awards including but not limited to First Aid, Advanced Resuscitation, Bronze Star, Bronze Medallion (Patrolling members only).
Abide by Membership Terms and Conditions and Code of Conduct
First Aid
A First Aid course provides you with the skills and knowledge required to provide first aid response to a casualty in line with first aid guidelines determined by the Australian Resuscitation Council (ARC) and other Australian national peak clinical bodies.
The course applies to all persons who may be required to provide a first aid response in a range of situations, including community and workplace settings. This is also a pre-requisite course for qualifications such as Bronze Medallion or IRB operations.
What do I need to gain my First Aid Qualification?
Be a financial member of an RLSQ Life Saving Club.
Be at least 14 years of age on the final assessment date.
Complete 2 minutes of uninterrupted CPR on an adult mannequin on the ground.
How long does a First Aid course take?
The First Aid course is typically run over a single day. Online theory is to be completed prior to a face to face session. Each course schedule can vary depending on trainer availability, weather conditions, and facility availability. Specific schedules will be issued for each course.
On successful completion of our First Aid course, participants will be awarded with the following units of competency;
Patrol Bronze Star
The Patrol Bronze Star is a stepping stone to the full Bronze Medallion that is generally the minimum standard required for full patrolling duties.
The Patrol Bronze Star was originally intended for young people aged between 12 and 15 years, however, anyone over the age of 12 can qualify at this level. The Patrol Bronze Star is the minimum standard required for to be on the beach and participate in Lifesaving Activities.
What do I need to gain my Patrol Bronze Star?
Be a financial member of an RLSQ Life Saving Club.
Be at least 12 years of age.
Complete an unaided 50m Run- 300m swim- 50m run in 10 minutes or less (goggles and masks permitted) in a swimming pool of not less than 25 m, or over a measured open water course which will be observed prior to you undertaking any water training or assessment activities.
Rescue conscious and unconscious patients 20m from safety using a variety of rescue devices.
Perform 2 minutes of uninterrupted CPR on the floor on an adult mannequin.
How long does a Bronze Star course take?
The Bronze Star course is typically run over 1 weekend with theory completed online prior to a one day practical session. However, each course schedule can vary depending on trainer availability, weather conditions, and facility availability. Specific schedules will be issued for each course.
On successful completion of our Patrol Bronze Star course, participants will be awarded with the following units of competency;
Bronze Medallion
The Bronze Medallion equips you with essential skills in surf awareness, rescue techniques, radio communication, CPR, and first aid..
As a Bronze Medallion holder, your responsibilities will include beach patrols, ensuring public safety, potential rescues using a board or tube, and preventive actions.
What do I need to gain my Bronze Medallion?
Be a financial member of an RLSQ Life Saving Club.
Be at least 14 years of age on the final assessment date.
Complete an unaided 100m run, 400m swim, 100m run in 10 minutes or less (goggles and masks permitted) in a swimming pool of not less than 25 m, or over a measured open water course.
Rescue conscious and unconscious patients 50m from safety using a variety of rescue devices.
Complete 2 minutes of uninterrupted CPR on an adult mannequin on the ground.
Work in a team to provide oxygen resuscitation to a mannequin in a simulated CPR environment.
How long does a Bronze Medallion course take?
The Bronze Medallion course is typically run over 2 weekends. Online theory is to be completed prior to the face to face sessions. Each course schedule can vary depending on trainer availability, weather conditions, and facility availability. Specific schedules will be issued for each course.
On successful completion of our Bronze Medallion course, participants will be awarded with the following units of competency and skill set;
Inflatable Rescue Boat (IRB)
An Inflatable Rescue Boat (IRB) award allows members to operate in the IRB in the capacity of either IRB Crew or Driver depending on the training and skill level acquired.
What do I need to gain my IRB Award/s?
Be a financial member of an RLSQ Life Saving Club.
Be at least 14 years of age (Crew), 16 years of age (Driver).
Hold a current Bronze Medallion Certificate
Hold an IRB Crew award (if training for IRB Driver)
Approval from Club Captain and Chief Instructor to complete course.
Attend and pass training workshops in surf conditions up to 1 metre.
How long does an IRB course take?
The IRB courses are typically run over 4-8 sessions with theory completed online prior to and during the training period. Each course schedule can vary depending on participant numbers, weather conditions, trainer availability, and facility/equipment availability. Specific schedules will be issued for each course.
